Towards Seed Sovereignty: Training cum Awareness Programme on PPVFR

ICAR - Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Hyderabad, in collaboration with the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Authority (PPVFRA), New Delhi, organized a Training-cum-Awareness Programme on the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights for KVKs of Telangana on February 28, 2025, at DDS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Zaheerabad.

Inauguration and Historical Context

The event began with the Inauguration of exhibition by Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Chairperson, PPVFRA, New Delhi. In the historic Deccan region, this initiative marks a significant step towards documenting and protecting traditional plant varieties developed by local farmers over generations.

Key Objectives

The primary focus of the programme was to educate agricultural scientists and farmers about the legal frameworks that protect their intellectual property rights regarding seed development. By ensuring seed sovereignty, farmers are empowered to continue their traditional practices while gaining legal recognition for their innovations.
